Todd Lawrence

Todd Lawrence is a Kansas City resident who has strong ties to the Atchison community. He serves as chief finacial officer of Blish-Mize Company and is the most recent recipient of the "Best of Show" award at the Riverbend Art Fair. He was born and raised in Moberly, Missouri where his interest in drawing and painting began. He studied art in high school and throughout college, where he won first place at a local gallery-sponsored show.

Lawrence pursed his business career and eventually returned to college and became a Certifited Public Accountant, alll the while sudying the works of other artists and defining his style. He continued to draw and in 1999 a gallery owner in Kansas City encouraged him to share his work with the public. His first show was a success. He sold several originals and signed prints, and he began to develop a loyal following.

Reminiscent of modern and abstact art appearing in the United States in the late 1960's and early 70's, Lawrence's style is experimental and evolutionary in nature. He uses mixed media including charcoal pastels, acrylic, spray paint, sand, and ink. He draws ordinary objects, believing that; "It's not what you draw, but how you draw them that affects people."

His work often reflects nature, but Larence also likes to incorporate stencils of letters and numbers. The intensity of color and unique perspective are common threads in all of his drawings.
