This exhibition is from the private collection of Carla Hanson. The collection represents a broad assortment of nationalities, religions, and rituals - over 50 masks from five continents, forty countries and nearly a dozen Native American tribes will be showcased! Dating from the early 1900s to the present, these masks may be viewed not only as cutural symbols but also as beautiful and provocative works of art.

Mask making classes for adults and children are scheduled Saturday, October 7 at the Gallery.

10 a.m. for children, 2 p.m. for adults

Start: 10:00 am
End: 2:00 pm

Showing concurrently with Spirit of the Mask, is an exhibit of photographic work by Kansas City artist Clif Hall. Originating as black and white photographs, the line prints featured in this exhibit are created with a technique called the “Sabattier Effect.” The original continuous-tone camera image has been destroyed, and replaced with a second image, which produces a fine outline of the most minute details of the original scene. The Mansion Series collects images of regional architecture, including two Atchison homes.
