Citizens of Atchison take pride in the stately Muchnic Home and appreciate the privilege of being invited into the home several times a year for art gallery showings. How very far-sighted were the members of the Muchnic family when they determined that the first floor of the house should be kept in its original state, enen to the furnishings. Wehn visitors enter the front doors they can be taken back to the bygone days of formal gracious living. Amental picture immediately comes to mind of the lively and lavish parties once held often here. Almost audible are the strains of music from the orchestra seated in the front bay window area and the low chatter of guests as they mingle with one another and dance in the threee adjoining living rooms. The lovely crystal chandeliers give off a soft light implemented by candles reflected in the mirrors over the mantles, and in the formal dining room many candles are lighted in the silver candelabra on the dark walnut sideboard.
The majestic three story house was built by George W. Howell in 1885. This Victorian home is one of the most beautiful historic homes in northeast Kansas.
