Artist and Art Psychotherapist, Bernard Stone, will be the featured artist at this years Riverbend Art Fair. The Art Fair is May 27th & 28th from ten to five both days on Atchison’s beautiful downtown Mall. There will be lectures at two o’clock both days in the building next to the Exchange bank.
 
A large collection of his work will also be displayed at the Muchnic Gallery at 704 North Fourth Street. His work consists mainly of landscapes with a n emphasis on light, mood and sense of place. He enjoys painting outdoors and interpreting the landplanes of different locations. Also  on display will be work from his private collection.

Stone has exhibited prize-winning art in New Mexico, Kansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland. His most recent Kansas Exhibition was the Alice Sabatini Gallery in Topeka. Bernard Stone graduated from Washburn University with bachelor’s degrees in art and psychology. He completed graduate studies at Kansas University where he studied with Robert Sudlow. He earned a Master of Fine Arts at Kansas University, and then moved to Ohio to study Art Psychotherapy. There he obtained registration with the American Art Therapy Association. He had published manly articles in journals including Psychiatry and Art.

His slide lectures will cover this fascinating subject. He notes his practice of Art Psychotherapy allowed him the privilege of directing art expression as a means of gaining ins9ght and restoring health to thousands of hospitalized rehabilitation and psychiatric patients.

Stone says, “It’s an esthetic way to make a living and help others, while being fee to paint subjects of my own selection. Art has allowed me to study with gifted physicians and talented artists. My art collection originated by means of these valuable friendships and connections.”

There will be an artist’s reception May 24th from 5:00-7:00 at the Muchnic Gallery. The Gallery hours are Wednesday 10:00-5:00 and Saturday and Sunday 1:00-5:00 and any other time for tours or special events.
